Meet the XXXI Carving Sypmosium Teams

Team Barcelona Forever

Captain Emiliano Lorenzo Vicente and his teammates Josu Ruiz and Dario Reina return for a second year representing Barcelona, Spain. Last
year’s sculpture “Medieval Veils” explored spirituality in three dimensions.

Team Perkele

A new entry to the Symposium, this team from ‘Funland’ is captained by Janne Andberg with Arto Manninen and Roope Lehmus. Their team has an extensive resume of international competition.

Team Abhyuday

For the first time, we welcome a team from India to the Symposium!
Team Abhyuday is captained by Ravi Prakash with teammates Sunil Kushwaha and Rajnish Verma. Team Abhyuday has a long resume of international participation
including events in China, Japan, and the USA.

Team Sundogs

Winners of last year’s Peoples’ Choice Award with their sculpture
“Wooley,” the Sundogs are Captain Larry MacFarlane of Manitoba, Manoj Khorudharry of Ottawa, and Cliff Vacheresse of Edmonton.

Team Snow Spirit

Captain Patricia Leguen from Saskatchewan, along with John
Sabourin of Yellowknife, won last year’s Artists’ Choice Award with the sculpture “Phoenix.” Patricia will be joined this year by new teammate Zuzana Riha, a painter and  sculptor from BC.

Team Folklore Construction

Team Folklore Captained by Alaena Warner, along with siblings Annie and Knute Johnsgaard, hails from Whitehorse, Yukon. Warner was at the Symposium in 2016, during a very cold year.

The Board

Joining the Symposium for the third year, the Board is Bruce Peck from Texas, and Abe Waterman from PEI. 

Team Three Hungry Dads

Marking the return of the  Avalanche Kid (Joel Maillet) and
Sir Joe Snow (Ryan McCord), with newcomer Graham Henning from Ontario. Maillet and McCord are long-time castle veterans.

Team Ragadass

Team Ragadass won the Peoples’ Choice Award in 2023 with the
stunning sculpture titles “Don’t Answer to Hunger.” Captain Joelle Gagnon will be joined by castle veteran Eugele (Eugene Gagnon), and a newcomer from Quebec, Marie-
Claude Paris-Tanguay.
