Flora and the Fireweeds are a Yellowknife-based folk-roots ensemble that have become an institution in the Yellowknife musical scene in their short-time together.

Led by songwriter and lead singer Brie O’Keefe, Flora & the Fireweeds is Eva Paul (vocals/percussion), Kate Mansfield (vocals, whistling), Jean-Michel Hivon (bass), James Hodson (guitar) and David Dowe (drums). Established in 2019, they recently released their first album Green Wood co-produced with Yellowknife-based composer Carmen Braden and David Dowe.

Flora and the Fireweed’s sound has been described as whimsical folk featuring sweet yet melancholy harmonies. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the magic of Denendeh that surrounds Yellowknife, their music both captures poetic wonder the beauty of the land while also poking fun at the absurdities of modern-day life.
